Owain Glyndivr

The enigmatic leader of the final Welsh revolt was a Welsh Squire called Owain Glyndivr who inspired extreme
patriotism among the Welsh. He was responsible for setting
up a Welsh Parliament and Chancery.

The trouble began with a dispute over a piece of common
land with Lord Grey of Ruthin. The King failed in an attempt
to settle the dispute. When Grey tried to murder Glyndivr he
sacked the town of Ruthin.

King Henry's army invaded Wales to suppress the
disturbance and the Welsh took up arms. Glyndivr managed
to keep the English forces at bay for over 10 years. He
assumed the title of 'Prince of Wales' and the arms of the
Welsh Princes.

Glyndivr spent his later years in quiet isolation, in the home
of one of his daughters.
